Shea Butter
The Shea tree is a wild tree that grows only in the northern savannah belt of West and East Africa. Due to the presence of more desirable qualities, the West African Shea tree/fruit is highly sought after as raw materials for the production of Shea butter for the confectionery market, because it has relatively higher Stearin content and is hence of more economic value than the East African fruits. Shea butter has become by volume, the single biggest base raw material for the global cosmetic industry, especially the skin care category which accounts for 20% of the over $382 billion cosmetic industry which continues to grow at the rate of 3% per annum.
